Tens of Thousands Gather to Celebrate TMII’s People’s Festival
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) held a vibrant People’s Festival in celebration of the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The event drew tens of thousands of enthusiastic visitors who came to take part in a variety of exciting cultural and recreational activities.
Traditional competitions such as panjat pinang (areca nut tree climbing), sack races, and tug-of-war became the highlight of the day. The spirit of togetherness and joy radiated from the faces of participants of all ages, all eagerly competing for the prizes provided by the organizers.
In addition to the traditional games, TMII also presented a Cultural Carnival and Decorative Car Parade featuring regional pavilions, museums, and TMII partners. This colorful parade showcased Indonesia’s stunning cultural diversity, enlivening the event route with vibrant costumes and local traditions. Each pavilion displayed its own unique identity, while the beautifully decorated vehicles wowed the crowd with creativity and visual appeal. Adding to the festive atmosphere, visitors were also treated to a captivating Kecak Dance performance.
As the grand finale of the celebration, TMII hosted a free public concert featuring two of Indonesia’s beloved bands, Maliq & D’Essentials and Fourtwnty. The concert took place on Sunday, 18 August 2024, attracting music lovers and families to enjoy an unforgettable evening of high-quality entertainment while commemorating the spirit of independence.
TMII Director, Intan Ayu Kartika, shared that the People’s Festival reflects TMII’s ongoing commitment to preserving Indonesian culture and fostering national pride.
“We want to offer a memorable experience for all TMII visitors, and invite everyone to celebrate togetherness and patriotism through these classic Independence Day competitions, cultural parades, and impressive dance performances like the Kecak. On Independence Day itself, we also offered a special ticket price of only Rp7,900, and provided fun promos at various attractions—such as free cable car rides for visitors named Agus,” she explained.
With this event, TMII hopes to create meaningful moments for the community to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the 79th anniversary of Indonesian independence. The festival was proudly supported by BTN, Jasa Raharja Putera, Pepsodent, Bank DKI, Bank Jateng, Cornetto, and Crystalin.
