NORTH SULAWESI PAVILION

Tabea Waya!

Under the sky of North Sulawesi lies a tapestry of ethnic diversity and fascinating cultural heritage. No fewer than ten local languages echo through daily life in this region. Its uniqueness is also reflected in the protection of rare wildlife, including the Maleo bird, Anoa, Babirusa, Deer, and Sapiutan.

The natural beauty of North Sulawesi is beyond question. The Bunaken Marine Park leaves visitors from around the world in awe, offering swaying coral reefs that serve as colorful underwater homes. Enjoy its breathtaking scenery through water sports like snorkeling and diving, which will immerse you in a dazzling marine wonderland.

Beyond the sea, the land of North Sulawesi is etched with historical traces. Sites such as the Tomb of National Hero Tuanku Imam Bonjol, Kyai Mojo, the DR. Sam Ratulangi Monument, and Eatu Pinawetengan offer a breeze from the past, rich with historical stories.

The region’s wealth of art and culture is also worth discovering. Learn the melodies of the kolintang, lose yourself in the rhythm of the bia drum, or bask in the beauty of bamboo music during your visit. Traditional dances such as Maengket, Cakalele, and Lenso captivate audiences with choreographed movements that serve as a rich cultural symphony.

At TMII’s grand stage, two traditional houses represent North Sulawesi: the Walewangko or heirloom house, and the Bolaang Mongondow house. These structures showcase the charm of their respective local cultures, particularly in terms of tradition and tourism.

Above the Walewangko, a display of stunning traditional attire tells stories from the regions of Bolaang Mongondow, Minahasa, and Sangihe Talaud. Below, in its shaded underfloor area, the natural resources, local industries, and handicrafts of the region are exhibited. This heirloom house is also filled with the gentle melodies of the kolintang and the harmonious notes of bamboo music, filling the air with sounds that reflect the spirit of North Sulawesi.

DID YOU KNOW?

Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi, is famous for the warmth of its people. The locals uphold the principle of “Sitou Timou Tumou Tou,” meaning “a person lives to give life to others.” This is closely aligned with the motto “Torang Samua Basudara,” which reflects the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity).
