MUSEUM PUSAKA

Located on the southern route between the Indonesian Soldiers Museum and the Insect Museum and Butterfly Garden, the Heirloom Museum, covering an area of 1,535 m2, captivates the eyes with its keris-shaped roof. The building construction commenced on September 1, 1992, and was inaugurated by President Soeharto on April 20, 1993.

Originating from the private collection of Dra. Hj. Sri Lestari Mas Agung, which was later donated to Hj. Siti Hartinah Soeharto, chairwoman of the Harapan Kita Foundation, the Heirloom Museum’s collection, now enhanced through various acquisitions, stands as the most comprehensive collection of traditional weapons from the 26 provinces of Indonesia.

The museum was established with the intention of preserving, maintaining, and collecting traditional weapons, imparting information to future generations about these cultural artifacts, and serving as a research center for weaponry. Within its walls, there is an exhibition space, information room, management room, discussion room, library, conservation room, preservation room, exchange room, and souvenir room that serve as platforms to disseminate knowledge about traditional weapons from the archipelago.

In the exhibition space, alongside the collection of heirlooms from various regions and eras, there are also various types of wood used in crafting these artifacts and a besalen room, which serves as the workplace of keris artisans. Some of the exceptional and legendary heritage items on display in the museum include the Nagasasra Sabuk Inten Keris from the Mataram era, kujang from the Padjajaran era, the Singa Barong Tinatah Mas Keris, karih from Sumatera, dagger from the Kingdom of Mataram, kudi from the Kingdom of Tuban, sword from the Hamengkubuwono IX era, and the Naga Tapa Keris from Yogyakarta.

The Heirloom Museum not only features permanent exhibitions but also hosts periodic exhibitions both within and outside the museum and offers various activities such as penjamasan ceremonies, and consultations.
