INDONESIA SCIENCE CENTER (PP-IPTEK)

Born from the vision of Prof. Dr. B.J. Habibie—then Minister of Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia—the Indonesia Science Center, known as Pusat Peragaan Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi (PP-IPTEK), was established as an informal learning space to foster science and technology education among the Indonesian public.

Originally located in Terminal B Skylift TMII on a 1,000 m² site, the center was inaugurated by President Soeharto on April 20, 1991. Later, PP-IPTEK was relocated to a larger, futuristic building in the eastern zone of TMII, facing the Non-Aligned Movement Monument. The 24,000 m² facility, inaugurated on November 10, 1995, now sits on a total area of 42,300 m² making it the second-largest site within TMII.

A favorite destination for students from kindergarten to high school, the Indonesia Science Center features over 450 interactive science and technology exhibits that visitors can touch, play with, and explore. Some of its most engaging exhibits include virtual reality, augmented reality, a high-wire bicycle, the Van de Graaff generator, an earthquake simulator, laser traps, mirror maze, and Jurassic park-themed zone.

PP-IPTEK also offers exciting science and technology shows, including water rocket demonstrations, science experiments, and Tesla coil shows. Visitors can participate in science workshops, watch science-themed films, and enjoy science stage performances, designed to make learning both fun and accessible.

Beyond its exhibitions, the Indonesia Science Center hosts a wide range of programs such as science camps, Mobile Science-X, digital camps, group gatherings, STEAM webinars and workshops, IT certification courses, overseas visits under the World Science Odyssey program, as well as specialized workshops in robotics, public speaking, and parenting.

It also organizes various competitions at regional, national, and international levels, including water rocket contests, poster-making, speech contests, discovery camps, coloring competitions, drawing challenges, and children’s storytelling contests.
