Born from the idea of Prof. Dr. B.J. Habibie, who at the time served as the Minister of Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesia Science Center (PP-IPTEK) was established as an extracurricular learning hub to cultivate science and technology knowledge among the Indonesian community.
Initially located in the Skylift terminal building B at TMII, occupying an area of 1,000 m2, the Science Center was inaugurated by President Soeharto on April 20, 1991. However, it later moved to a new building in the central eastern area of TMII, facing the Non-Aligned Movement Monument. This futuristic building, spanning 24,000 m2, was inaugurated by President Soeharto on November 10, 1995, making it the second-largest area within TMII with a total land size of 42,300 m2.
As a frequently visited destination for students from kindergarten to high school, The Indonesia Science Center (PP-IPTEK) presents 450 interactive science and technology exhibits that can be touched and played with, along with engaging and enjoyable science programs. Among the captivating interactive exhibits are virtual reality, augmented reality, cable-suspended bicycle, Van de Graaff generator, earthquake simulator, laser traps, mirror maze, Jurassic garden, and many more.
Additionally, there are fascinating science and technology performances, including water rocket demonstrations, science demonstrations, and Tesla coil demonstrations. The center also offers science workshop programs, science film screenings, and science shows. These exhibits and science programs provide an easy and enjoyable learning experience in the field of science and technology.
Beyond showcasing interactive science exhibits and engaging science programs, the Indonesia Science Center (PP-IPTEK) also organizes various other activities, such as science camps, mobile science-x, digital camps, gatherings, workshops, science webinars (STEAM), IT workshops, certification programs, professional programs, international visits (World Science Odyssey), robotics workshops, public speaking workshops, parenting workshops, and many more.
Indonesia Science Center also hosts a variety of competitions at regional, national, and international levels, including water rocket competitions, poster competitions, speech contests, discovery camps, coloring competitions, drawing competitions, children’s storytelling competitions, and many more.
