"TAMAN BURUNG" BIRD PARK

Bathed in sunlight and nourished by tropical rain, Indonesia is a grand stage for the mesmerizing dance of countless birds. From the far west to the eastern edge of the archipelago, each wingbeat of these endemic birds carries a unique story of life, stories that come alive in the six-hectare “Taman Burung” Bird Park at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

The bird collection is organized based on Indonesia’s biogeographical distribution following the Wallace Line, which divides the park into two major regions: the Greater Sunda and the Wallacea-Sahul. In the Greater Sunda dome, visitors can explore via the sky walk and be serenaded by the calls of birds from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Bali, such as the Peacock, Myna, Hornbill, and Bali Starling. In the eastern dome, birds from Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua—like the Bird of Paradise, Cassowary, Lory, and Maleo—roam freely, showing off their stunning charm. Each dome presents vegetation that replicates the birds’ natural habitats, using an eye-level approach to enhance the immersive experience.

More than just a recreational attraction, the “Taman Burung” Bird Park holds the most complete bird collection in Indonesia, with thousands of birds on site. It serves as a conservation center, an educational hub for students, and a research site for university scholars. Over 200 bird species—including rare and protected ones like the Javan Hawk-Eagle—have successfully been bred here, as part of TMII’s broader conservation and preservation efforts.

In 2022, the “Taman Burung” Bird Park underwent revitalization and returned in 2023 with a new, greener, and more modern face. At its heart stands the Maleo Amphitheater, a space for bird presentations and live shows. The enchanting Bantimurung Cave leads guests to the serene Bantimurung Restaurant. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the artificial lake and participate in interactive experiences, such as feeding pelicans in the open air.
